US Getting Closer to Neighbors
The United States government headed by President Barack Obama is extending a hand of friendship to Cuba first and now Venezuela. At the Summit of the Americas in the two island nations of Trinidad and Tobago, Obama exchanged pleasantries with Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan President who gave him a copy of a book by Eduardo Galeano. President Obama said he hoped to make time for each of the leaders from Columbia, Canada, Peru, Chile, Haiti and other countries as well. President Obama also indicated that he was willing to accept Cuban president Raul Castro’s invitation to talks on release of political prisoners languishing in Cuban prisons.
